HKRITA Opens Platform to Drive Sustainable Fashion Technology

The HKRITA Green Innotextile Base (GIB), a collaboration with the Pudong New Force Incubator and the Pudong-Hong Kong Institute for Technology Transfer and Innovation, officially launched during the Innostech 2025 Shanghai-Hong Kong Seminar.

HKRITA chair Teresa Yang highlighted that the Green Innotextile Base (GIB) is designed to harness the textile industry's strengths, fostering collaboration across industry, academia, and research. She explained that the platform promotes smart manufacturing and seamlessly integrates advanced innovations with sustainable fashion principles throughout the textile supply chain. Ultimately, the GIB aims to help the industry achieve a balance between environmental benefits and economic growth, boosting competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.

The Green Innotextile Base (GIB) is set to commence operations within the Yangtze River Delta, concentrating its efforts on fostering sustainable growth, advancing circular economy initiatives, exploring novel materials for textiles and apparel, and integrating fashion with artificial intelligence. Its overarching mission is to align with China's environmental and innovative strategies by establishing technical norms, providing certification services, and facilitating technology transfer to accelerate the adoption of new technologies within the industry.

The platform will also be instrumental in connecting technology with markets and expanding business opportunities for Hong Kong companies, encouraging investment across various regions and fostering collaborative industry efforts.

Pudong New Force Incubator chairman Geng Zhongwei stated that an effective industrial operation platform must centralize exceptional resources and integrate diverse incubation services to support entrepreneurs, helping them refine their start-up projects for successful implementation. He emphasized that Pudong New Force Incubator is developing AI-driven automation services to proactively address challenges faced by new businesses. According to Geng, an incubation platform's success should be measured by the value-added services it provides to facilitate start-up growth, and the Green Innotextile Base represents a crucial step in this new phase of development.

Additionally, HKRITA has partnered with NeoRita Sustainable Technologies (Shanghai) to utilize its bacterial cellulose transformation technology for the creation of environmentally friendly vegan leather products.

This collaboration effectively demonstrates the practical application of HKRITA's technologies and highlights Hong Kong's dedication to sustainable innovation across diverse sectors, paving the way for broader development.
